Terms and conditions
This is a translation for your convenience. The German version is legally binding.
Dance It GmbH, Seltisbergerstrasse 46, 4059 Basel, operator of Bachata Basel (bachata-basel.ch) and the studio at Tramstrasse 66, 4142 Münchenstein (hereinafter "Bachata Basel")
1. Scope
1.1 These Terms and Conditions apply to all courses, taster sessions, workshops, events, passes and other offerings from Bachata Basel, booked via the website bachata-basel.ch, the course app or in person.
1.2 By making a booking, participants accept these Terms and Conditions. Differing conditions only apply if Bachata Basel has agreed to them in writing.
2. Registration and Contract
2.1 Registration takes place online via the website or the course app, and in exceptional cases in person. Once the booking is completed, a binding contract is formed between the participant and Bachata Basel.
2.2 Course places are allocated in order of registration ("first come, first served"). A place is considered reserved as soon as the booking has been confirmed.
2.3 For partner courses, each person selects a role (Leader or Follower). Bachata Basel aims to maintain a balanced ratio and may place a registration on a waiting list if one role is fully booked. There is no entitlement to a fixed dance partner.
2.4 For a couple booking, one person books for themselves and a second person; the second person receives an invitation and registers with their own account. The person making the booking is liable for the full course fee.
2.5 The details provided during registration (name, email, phone number) must be accurate. Course communications are sent by email and – with explicit consent – by WhatsApp.
3. Prices and Payment
3.1 The prices published at the time of booking apply, in CHF, including any applicable VAT.
3.2 The course fee is payable at the time of online booking (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay). If "Payment on site" is selected, the fee must be paid on the first day of the course at the latest, on site (card/Twint/cash).
3.3 Discounted prices (e.g. for students or apprentices) are only valid with appropriate proof, which must be presented upon request.
3.4 Voucher codes and reward points must be redeemed during the online booking process; retroactive credit is not possible.
3.5 In the event of non-payment, Bachata Basel reserves the right to refuse participation and reallocate the place. The obligation to pay remains in force unless the booking was cancelled within the required timeframe.
4. Withdrawal, Cancellation and Rebooking
4.1 Withdrawals must be communicated in writing (email) or via the course app.
4.2 For withdrawals up to 7 days before the course start date, the course fee will be refunded, minus any payment processing fees actually incurred (card payment/booking platform). If preferred, a voucher for the full amount can be issued instead.
4.3 For withdrawals less than 7 days but at least 48 hours before the course start date, no refund is due. As a gesture of goodwill, Bachata Basel may issue a voucher for another course (valid for 12 months).
4.4 For withdrawals less than 48 hours before the course start date or after the course has begun, no refund or voucher is due, unless a replacement person is found to take the place.
4.5 Deregistration via the course app is possible up to 48 hours before the course start date and releases the spot; it counts as a written withdrawal in the sense of 4.1.
4.6 Rebookings to a different course (same price) are possible up to the course start date, subject to availability; any difference in price will be charged accordingly.
4.7 Refunds will be made to the original payment method or issued as a voucher.
5. Missed Lessons
5.1 There is no entitlement to make up or receive a refund for missed lessons within a current course block.
5.2 If you know before booking that you will be unable to attend certain dates (holidays, work commitments), please discuss this with the teachers before booking. In that case, missed lessons may, by arrangement, be compensated through make-up lessons in a class at the same or a lower level (a maximum of 2 per course block, subject to availability). Such an arrangement is not possible after booking.
5.3 In the event of illness or injury, a medical certificate can be provided to arrange compensation through make-up lessons in an alternative class; if more than 3 lessons in a block are missed, a voucher for the next block will be issued.
5.4 Participants are asked to record any absences in the course app ("Not attending") so that the teachers can plan accordingly. Registering an absence does not give rise to any entitlement to compensation.
6. Course Delivery and Changes
6.1 Courses take place once the minimum number of participants has been reached. Bachata Basel may cancel, postpone or merge courses if there are too few registrations or for other important reasons.
6.2 If a booked course is cancelled before it begins, the course fee paid will be refunded in full or credited as a voucher. If an individual lesson is cancelled by Bachata Basel (e.g. due to the teacher's illness), a replacement date will be offered; if this is not possible, the lesson will be credited on a pro-rata basis as a voucher.
6.3 Changes to course times, rooms or teachers (including substitutes) are possible, provided the overall nature of the course is not significantly affected, and do not give rise to any entitlement to a refund.
6.4 Courses do not generally take place during Basel-Stadt school holidays or on public holidays; the course series will be extended accordingly. Dates are shown in the timetable and in the course app.
6.5 Joining a course that is already in progress is possible up until the halfway point; only the remaining lessons will be charged. After that, Bachata Basel will decide on a case-by-case basis.
7. Taster Sessions
7.1 Taster sessions are available once per course and per person and are intended for getting a feel for a class. They must be booked in advance; participation is only possible in an ongoing course at a suitable level.
7.2 Bachata Basel may decline a taster session request if the level is not suitable or the course is full.
8. BaBa Pass
8.1 The BaBa Pass entitles the holder to attend as many regular group courses by Bachata Basel as they wish during the validity period. The pass is personal and non-transferable; it does not apply to partner/couple bookings made by other people, private lessons, workshops or events, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
8.2 Price: as per the published price, payable monthly or for the entire duration in advance. Voucher codes can be redeemed at the time of purchase.
8.3 Duration: The validity period begins with the first course booking made using the pass and covers that course term and the one that follows (two course terms, typically four months). Holiday breaks during which Bachata Basel does not offer any courses are not counted towards the duration.
8.4 Renewal: If a pass with automatic renewal was selected at the time of purchase, the pass will automatically renew by one additional course term upon expiry. Bachata Basel will send a reminder in good time (at least 14 days) before the renewal by email or WhatsApp; automatic renewal can be turned off at any time before the end of the current period via the course app or in writing. Without automatic renewal, the pass expires at the end of the validity period.
8.5 Courses must be booked using the pass through the course app; a place is only reserved once the booking has been confirmed. The general rules regarding roles, waiting lists and attendance apply. Bachata Basel may restrict pass bookings if a person repeatedly fails to attend booked sessions without giving prior notice.
8.6 Bachata Basel does not guarantee that all advertised courses will take place. Cancellations, rescheduling, merging of classes, or changes to instructors and times do not entitle the holder to a refund, reduction in price, or extension of the pass; other courses may be attended instead.
8.7 Payment: For monthly payments, the saved card will be charged automatically. If a payment fails, Bachata Basel will notify the holder; if payment remains outstanding after a reminder, the pass will be paused (no bookings possible) until the outstanding amount has been settled. The payment obligation for the agreed duration remains in place. For payment by invoice, the payment deadline stated on the invoice applies.
8.8 Cancellation: The pass cannot be returned after purchase; early cancellation during the minimum term (two course terms) is not permitted, and refunds are excluded. In the event of extended illness or injury, the pass will be paused upon presentation of a medical certificate; the validity period will be extended by the length of the pause.
9. Behaviour and Exclusion
9.1 Participants are expected to treat fellow participants and the team with respect. Bachata Basel may exclude individuals from a course in cases of repeated or serious misconduct; in such cases, no refund will be given.
9.2 A minimum age of 16 applies to courses and events, unless stated otherwise. Persons under 18 require the consent of a parent or legal guardian (including agreement to clause 11).
10. Liability and Insurance
10.1 Participation is at your own risk. Participants are responsible for assessing their own physical fitness and suitability.
10.2 Bachata Basel is only liable for damages caused intentionally or through gross negligence. No further liability is accepted for accidents, injuries, or loss or theft of personal belongings on the premises.
10.3 Insurance (accident and liability) is the responsibility of each participant.
11. Photos and Videos
11.1 By booking a course, workshop, event or ticket, participants agree that photos and videos may be taken during the event and used by Bachata Basel for promotional purposes (website, social media and other channels).
11.2 Anyone who does not wish to appear in photos or videos should let the course instructor know before the event begins; this will be respected. Bachata Basel will not publish any inappropriate material and will, where possible, remove individual photos or videos upon request.
12. Data Protection
12.1 Bachata Basel processes personal data (contact details, bookings, attendance, payment status) for the purpose of fulfilling contracts and course communication. The data is stored in the course app and in the services used (booking/payment platform, email delivery, and WhatsApp where applicable) and is not shared with third parties unless this is necessary for the fulfilment of a contract.
12.2 WhatsApp messages are only sent with your explicit consent; consent can be withdrawn at any time in your profile in the course app.
12.3 Further details are set out in the Privacy Policy.
13. Final Provisions
13.1 Bachata Basel may update these Terms and Conditions; for existing bookings, the version valid at the time of booking applies.
13.2 Should any individual provisions be invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions shall not be affected.
13.3 The contractual partner is Dance It GmbH, Seltisbergerstrasse 46, 4059 Basel. Swiss law applies. The place of jurisdiction is Basel-Stadt.
